Quota means Sharing......
Quota was founded in Buffalo, New York by 1919 by Wanda Frey Joiner. The first women’s service organization in the U. S. is now represented in fourteen countries around the world. The original focus of service was the hearing impaired and deaf in the community. The Salisbury Chapter was formed in 1935 and originally was called the Quota Club of the Eastern Shore. Over the years our name was changed to Quota Club of Salisbury, Maryland.
In addition to our name change, our focus of service has expanded to include speech impaired individuals, as well as disadvantaged women and children. The following are just some of the programs in which we are involved: “Cops N Kids” book distribution, elementary school reading programs and reading “Quota Quiet Corners” throughout the area.
We supply toys, blankets and books through the “Sheriff's Kids Program,” which serves the children of Wicomico County, Maryland. We provide financial support to the Wicomico Audiology Center for the hearing aid bank and monies to purchase hearing aid batteries. We also fund college scholarships to four graduating Wicomico County High School Seniors.
Last but certainly not least, we grant financial support to over 20 other community organizations some include Coastal Hospice, the Salvation Army, the United Way of The Eastern Shore and many others. For over 30 years, our main fundraiser to support these many and varied projects has been our Christmas Gift & Craft Show held at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center the last weekend in October. The Show is completely organized and managed by Quota volunteers. With nearly 150 booths and good attendance, we are fortunate to financially give all monies received back to our community.
Through the years the Quota Club has changed and has become a Men & Women's organization. We are always looking for business minded people to join our club. If you would like more information please click on the "Contact Us" tab above and send us a message.
